The Trifecta

So for the third time this year I participating in another Warrior Dash and for the first time this year the race is about 20 minutes from my house, no planes, no rental cars and no hotels.....I can't wait. My wife and I had registered for the Disney 5k at the end of September but she tore the upper part of her Achilles a few weeks before the race so those plans got nixed.  I guess at some point in the next few week I'll have to switch from the elliptical back to running......in hopes of being able to competitively run 3 miles through mud, water and over fire....

Possibly A Third One This Year

Looks like they've added another Warrior Dash in Florida...Set for January 2011....I had thoughts of heading to TN this September in order to complete the Triple Crown but now I might not have to wander all that far. Mud, Sweat and Beer......

I'm Back

As yet another 52 Day Challenge approaches I am reminded that I haven't updated my blog in a month or so.....

I did manage to participate in yet another Warrior Dash. What a blast Mud, Sweat and Beer. the best part was that both my wife and my Mom were able to participate.

Where else can a 47 year old cover himself in mud and then get 3 free beers and a medal? This is the second Warrior Dash that I've worn this same shirt and this time my Mother took on the challenge of getting the mud out of it.....

At the race end most donate their shoes where Green Sneakers washes and then washes them again and ships them off to those who need sneakers....not a bad way to be a humanitarian and get 3 free beers.

Since the last warrior dash I've eased off the weights, it's really been the first break since last summer. I did manage to keep up with my cardio logging approx 12 miles or so a week. My weight has held between 214 and 218 those 3 free beers have planted themselves right on my hips.

I joined a local gym.....The special that they were running was one of those deals that I couldn't pass up. This evening was my second visit and lo and behold there he was 18 years old 6' 2" 140lbs and doing curls.....in the one and only squat rack...I almost pee'd in my pants.

My goals for the Summer Challenge are as follows
CE: 90
RT: 20
CT: 209
PG1: 40-4-40
PG2: Drop at least 5lbs
Why is that 210lb mark so damn elusive?

Warrior Dash 2011 A Recap.......

Yesterday was the Warrior Dash, It was possibly one of the best afternoons that I've spent...ever. It's not about finishing with a competitive time, even though there is a winner, how do you know what's competitive when it's a 3 mile race across junk cars, hay bales, under barbed wire and over logs and up cargo nets and through tires.....The fact that you hit the finish line with a huge smile on your face lets you know that you were competitive.

You're not an Official Warrior until you get your official warrior headdress.
Yes, you need to start the race with clean clothes, the cleaner the better.

Oh yea, I forgot to mention the two fire pits you have to hurdle just one obstacle shy of the finish line...the last obstacle you ask....well it's the Muddy Mayhem pit so just in case you are on fire the muddy murky dank water will extinguish your flames....

Lots and lots of costumes...the Harlem Globetrotters showed up.

The Jolly Green Giant and Mullet Man also made an appearance. These guys were drinking beer before the race...my kind of guys.

Batman and Robin without any alcohol...these guys were actually stretching and warming up.

If you make it across the finish line you get a medal! In 46 years of life this is the first time that I've ever gotten a medal......

Mud, Sweat and Beer - In this case one for each hand! Both Light Beers which equals one real beer, I think.

My wife filmed my amazing jumping skills...it's no wonder the hair on my shins is missing.

These guys filmed the race with a helmet cam....a pretty decent representation of the race.

and yes this counts as a CT I finished in 47:58 and placed 2404 out of 5159....

I am a warrior

Idle time is not always best spent on me.....I've fallen victim to late night QVC products ( a car alarm ) , home sick from work ( a newspaper subscription) etc.... Early this morning I had some idle time and I came across a site for the "Warrior Dash".....and look there's one close by "LINK"
What is the Warrior Dash you might ask, I'm so glad you asked...
here's the first 4 points of the wavier, it's enough to give you the general idea.

Waiver and Release Of Claims, Assumption Of Risk and Warning Of Risk
1. I understand that entering Warrior Dash is a hazardous activity.
2. I understand that Warrior Dash presents extreme obstacles including, but not limited to, fire, mud pits and steep hills.
3. I agree not to participate unless I am medically able.
4. I agree to not consume alcohol prior to Warrior Dash or ingest any medicines or substances that will inhibit my mental or physical ability to safely and effectively participate in Warrior Dash.

Here's 4 of the 12 obstacles....

Here is their training advice...

How do I train for Warrior Dash?
1. Day one: run as far as you can. Go home. Day two: do the same thing.
2. Find the dirtiest pond in your neighborhood and snorkel in it - in your slippers, without goggles.
3. Practice your climbing and crawling skills at your local jungle gym. Ignore the small children and parental glares.
4. Do not shower or shave for weeks in order to obtain a true Warrior look.

All in all how tough could this be? I'll let you know on Jan 30th.
